Leosian and Aeloria Caelinthal

At A Glance
Leosian Caelinthal’s appearance is a stark reflection of his inner torment, a mixture of noble elegance tainted by grief and obsession. His features, once bright with promise, have become haunting and distant, his body a vessel carrying not only the remnants of his sister’s spirit but the restless souls of those whose graves he has disturbed. The delicate porcelain doll he carries serves as both a symbol of his unyielding love and the anchor that tethers him to a world of darkness and the dead. Every aspect of his appearance tells the story of a man who cannot escape the ghosts of his past, and whose obsession has become as much a part of him as his own blood and bone.
Background
Leosian Caelinthal was born into one of the most esteemed noble houses in Ishgard, House Caelinthal, known for their mastery in artifice and alchemy. The family was well-respected, feared for their prowess in political influence, and admired for their unmatched skills in creating intricate works of mechanical beauty. Yet, despite their outward power, the Caelinthals were a family bound by deep love and care, especially between Leosian and his younger sister, Aeloria Caelinthal. The fragile girl, however cheerful, was terminally ill.Aeloria was everything to Leosian—her innocence, kindness, and pure heart were a beacon in his otherwise complex world. She was the only person who truly understood him, the only one who could calm the storms that raged within him. She was not just his sister but his closest friend, and he was fiercely protective of her. Their bond was so strong that it was said the two shared an almost telepathic connection, able to sense each other's emotions and thoughts without a word spoken. However, the tranquility of their family was shattered one fateful night when an unknown group of assassins, masked by shadows and cloaked in the dead of night, infiltrated the family’s estate. The massacre was swift and brutal. House Caelinthal was reduced to ruin, with Leosian being the sole survivor, barely escaping the slaughter through sheer luck. His sister, the one person he loved more than life itself, was taken from him in that horrific night. She fell in the same room he had once shared with her, her life snuffed out in the blink of an eye.In his grief, Leosian was unable to make sense of the attack. His family's murder was never solved, and the assassins never identified. The sheer randomness of it all left him hollow, desperate for any form of connection to the world he had lost. Among the wreckage of his home, the only thing Leosian could do to ease his pain of Aeloria’s passing was tucked into an obsessive project. He made a full-scale replica of the girl in porcelain with ball joints. A doll. It was delicate, beautiful, and the only object that offered him any solace. In his madness, he began to carry it with him everywhere.Aeloria's spirit, however, did not rest. Unable to speak or communicate in the traditional sense, she lingered as a restless ghost, her soul tethered to the doll. The bond between Leosian and Aeloria was far from broken, and he quickly became convinced that he could bring her back in this new vessel. He began collecting items and fragments from the graves of the deceased, convinced that the spirit of his sister would be able to reunite with her physical body through the objects of the fallen. He began his journey, traveling from one burial site to another, retrieving trinkets, mementos, and keepsakes from the dead—clothing, jewelry, even fragments of bone. He believed that by gathering enough of these pieces, he could recreate the vessel of her soul, merging it with her body once more.Leosian's quest, however, had an unintended consequence. Every time he took an item from a grave, the spirits of the deceased would cling to him. First, it was the faint whispers in the dark, then the cold shivers on the back of his neck. Soon, he was followed by the restless souls of those whose belongings he had taken, their hollow eyes fixed on him as they sought to reclaim what was once theirs. The spirits are silent, save for the occasional murmur of sorrow or anger that emanates from them when they are close to the grave of the person whose belongings Leosian has taken. They do not interfere with his quest, but they are ever-present, haunting him as a constant reminder of his actions. Aeloria, though tethered to the doll, remains his guiding light, a flickering presence that comforts him when the weight of the spirits threatens to overwhelm him.Leosian now travels in an endless circle, carrying the porcelain doll of his sister—Aeloria’s silent spirit bound within it—folded up in an oversized briefcase. To others, he may appear to be a strange, haunted man, a tragic figure consumed by his own loss and the dead who follow him. But to Leosian, this is the only path. He will stop at nothing to reclaim the piece of Aeloria that was taken from him, no matter the cost, and will continue to collect the pieces of the dead, driven by a belief that one day, he will reunite the two halves of her soul.

Appearance
Complexion: Leosian has pale, almost alabaster skin that contrasts sharply with the deep shadows under his eyes. His skin’s color is a result of both his noble heritage and his life spent in mourning and isolation. There's a faint, almost imperceptible translucence to his skin, as though he has become more akin to a specter than a living person over time.Hair: His hair is long and dark, typically untamed and slightly tangled, falling just past his shoulders. The color is a rich, midnight black, but it carries streaks of silver, especially around the temples, not from age but from the immense stress and grief he’s endured over the years. His hair is often windswept or messy, and he rarely takes care to tame it, as if the effort of caring for his own appearance pales in comparison to his obsession with resurrecting his sister.Eyes: Behind silver framed glasses, Leosian's eyes are a haunting shade of royal blue, but there’s an unnatural intensity to them. While his gaze is sharp and piercing, there’s a depth to his eyes that suggests they’ve seen far more sorrow than any one person should bear. The whites of his eyes are faintly tinged with red, a sign of countless sleepless nights spent in turmoil. His pupils are slightly dilated, giving him a look of constant disorientation as if he’s always searching for something, or someone, just out of his reach.Facial Features: His face is angular, with high cheekbones and a strong, aristocratic jawline—traits that speak to his noble heritage. However, his features have become increasingly drawn and gaunt as the years have passed. His lips are pale, often tight in a grim line, and his expression rarely shifts between emotions. The only time his face truly softens is when he gazes at the porcelain doll, his sister’s effigy, with a hint of longing and a trace of sorrow.
Personality and Motives
Leosian is driven by an overwhelming sense of grief and guilt over the death of his sister, Aeloria. While outwardly composed, he is haunted by the tragedy, unable to accept that she is gone. His love for her has evolved into an obsession, and he will go to great lengths—no matter how twisted or dark—to reunite with her. His actions, while disturbing to those around him, are motivated by his deep-seated desire to protect the memory of his sister and preserve what is left of her.He is not inherently cruel, but his obsession has led him to ignore the consequences of his actions. He has become disconnected from the world around him, unable to fully interact with others, as his mind is always focused on his ultimate goal: the resurrection of Aeloria. The spirits that follow him are not his enemies but simply a byproduct of his actions. However, as time passes, he becomes increasingly aware that his quest is not only endangering him but also the restless souls he collects along the way. The weight of these spirits has started to take a toll on his mental and physical state, leaving him questioning his motives, but he cannot stop himself.Leosian’s journey is a tragic one—an endless search for redemption, even if it is in the form of something as unnatural as the resurrection of his sister’s body. The spirits of the dead that follow him serve as a constant reminder that he cannot escape his grief, and that even the purest of souls, like Aeloria, are bound to the cruel reality of death.
Unique Features Reflecting His Obsession
Porcelain Doll: The most defining feature of Leosian's appearance is the large, oversized briefcase he always carries, which contains the porcelain doll of his sister, Aeloria. The doll is an immaculate replica of Aeloria, with delicate features, porcelain skin, and dark, glassy eyes that seem almost too lifelike. The doll’s fine craftsmanship contrasts sharply with Leosian’s own disheveled and haunting presence. He treats it with utmost reverence, and though he tries to keep the doll well-maintained, there are noticeable chips in its porcelain, a reflection of the years of neglect. The case itself is worn, with leather straps that have frayed over time, and it often creaks under the weight of the ghostly aura that emanates from within.Shadows of the Spirits: Those who come into close proximity to Leosian may notice an eerie, almost imperceptible aura surrounding him—something not quite seen but sensed. The spirits of the dead that follow him seem to cling to the shadows around him, and sometimes, the faintest glimmers of their forms can be glimpsed from the corner of one’s eye. Shadows will move with him, undisturbed by the wind, and sometimes flicker in strange patterns around his figure, as though the souls are playing tricks on those who are too close. The more restless the spirits become, the more pronounced this effect gets, giving Leosian an almost otherworldly aura.Faint, Lingering Scents: Those who travel with or near Leosian might notice the faint, lingering scent of roses or incense that seems to emanate from his presence. This is not because of any personal scent or perfume but rather the ethereal trace left by the spirits he carries with him. It is as if the souls are leaving a mark on his being—an almost sickly-sweet smell that serves as a reminder of death and the lives lost.Tremors in His Hands: Leosian’s hands, once elegant and steady in his youth, now tremble ever so slightly, especially when he touches the doll or holds something dear to Aeloria’s memory. The tremors are not necessarily physical weakness but the manifestation of his emotional instability and obsession. At times, the tremors are almost imperceptible, but in moments of heightened stress or anguish, they become more pronounced, making his hands seem like those of an old man.Clothing and Personal Effects: Leosian dresses in dark, muted tones, favoring long, flowing coats and tunics that are clearly of noble origin but worn and faded from his years of travel. His attire, once immaculate, now carries the marks of time—fraying hems, dirt-stained cuffs, and an overall air of neglect. Around his neck, he wears a simple silver chain, which holds a locket containing a faded portrait of Aeloria, a picture of her in life, before the tragedy. The locket is often the only thing that glimmers faintly when caught in light, contrasting with the otherwise somber tone of his outfit.Ghostly Presence: When Leosian is deep in thought, or when his emotions are stirred by the sight of something reminding him of his sister, a faint spectral glow can sometimes be seen around him. This glow is subtle, often mistaken for a trick of the light, but for those attuned to the supernatural, it’s clear that it’s the spirits he’s collected. It’s as if they are drawn to him, clinging to him, forming an ethereal halo that only those with a strong connection to the arcane or the dead can truly sense.Physical Mannerisms:
Leosian’s movements are often slow and deliberate, as though he is constantly aware of the weight he carries—not just the briefcase with the doll but the invisible burden of the spirits following him. When walking, he might sometimes pause mid-step as if hearing something that others cannot. His head will tilt slightly, and he’ll speak softly to the air, addressing Aeloria as though she were still with him. He does not do so aloud for the world to hear, but it is clear that he is in constant communication with his sister’s spirit, a one-sided conversation that only he can understand. When in a moment of intense grief or anger, his hands will sometimes grasp the briefcase tighter, his fingers tightening around the handle as though trying to protect the doll from some unseen threat. His eyes, when reflecting on the memories of Aeloria, often take on a faraway, distant look, and he’ll mutter her name to himself, sometimes in a way that is almost pleading.

Hooks and Roleplay Ideas
THE SEARCH FOR ARTIFACTS — Leosian seeks rare artifacts, especially those related to death and spirits, hoping they will help him in his quest to reunite Aeloria’s body and soul. Many of these items are found in graveyards, which he is not above digging down into and breaking through caskets to get.THE SPIRIT'S INFLUENCE — The restless souls that follow Leosian grow increasingly powerful, perhaps threatening the lives of those around him or even forcing him into dangerous situations where the dead demand retribution for what they’ve lost. Will he ever be free from the spirits he has disturbed or is this his own divine punishment?THE ASSASSIN'S LEGACY — Unbeknownst to Leosian, the assassins who destroyed his family might not have been random attackers. There may be deeper, darker motives behind the massacre, and Leosian’s pursuit of his sister’s soul may inadvertently lead him to uncover more about his family’s past—and the forces that sought to destroy them.MORAL STRUGGLE — Leosian begins to confront the morality of his actions as he realizes the spirits of the dead are following him. Will he continue his quest for Aeloria, or will he seek a way to release the souls he’s unknowingly trapped?
